Pokémon games might be fine, yes, but you have to get the idea that this is a commercial, hermetic saga and you can’t risk it. Every design, every application has been studied and previously worked on other video games. Hackroms and fangames, on the other hand, are mostly made from the heart, are a constant source of fresh ideas and often cross lines that Nintendo cannot afford. Is there too much garbage? How do you know what’s good to start with? Quiet. I’ve already played them for you. This is a short list. It’s a personal choice.

Pokémon MMO is a fangam … a hackr … is basically a game where you have original installments and regions to explore with your friends, meet people, fight and trade. It has an economy system, connectivity between roms, and very cute customization. An experience to live if you are a fan (and not that much) of the epic. It even implements a daily cycle for non-standard regions! Explore all of Kanto, Hoenn Unova and Sinnoh with your friends and travel from one place to another at your leisure. You have to sign up and once registered, everything will be saved in your user account so you can easily move the game from PC to Android and vice versa.
Pokémon Showdown [PC, Android] ☆☆☆☆
What’s the worst part of getting into multiplayer Pokémon? Everything. Find Pokémon of the right nature that is the perfect IV, distribute EVs, attack set, own TMs … and ultimately pay for an online service for games with an ‘expiry date’. Pokémon Showdown is an accessible editor where we create teams and play with them against other people without the need for any game. Eternal, simple and with people who give a cane every day. Build your team a la carte and play with the rules and restrictions of the generation you want. No need to waste your life time searching and strengthening monsters. Great for attending home tournaments. Updated to the latest generation.
Pokémon Rebellion [PC] ☆☆☆
A celebrity with a beautiful territory, a story about religious cults a little darker than a traditional Pokémon, and a challenge that requires more planning and strategy than ever before. It’s not the prettiest, most contextual, or most touching argument, but I’ve put it on the list for a summary of everything. Moreover, you know that Game Freak marks a fangame school when its functionality is removed. We have Delta forms that will be regional changes as well as avatar customization and some other minor details. It’s not the first or last game that Game Freak has done this, but it needs to be taken into account.
Pokémon Clover [GBA Hack] ☆☆☆☆
A Fire Red hack, I warn you in advance: You won’t find a Pokémon game that is too hard to score too high to joke with. 4Chan’s own website has been paired to take this project forward, and the joke is present in every available trainer, route, and Pokémon design. Pokédex is all made up of Fakemon (Pokémon invented) and the story follows the usual approach except for the Karma team that aims to obtain the strongest meme. Expect black humor and off-switch jokes that limit the bad taste you can’t find in a Nintendo launch. Two regions and almost four hundred monsters.
Pokémon Iberia [PC] ☆☆☆☆
Pokémon Iberia is almost identical to Clover, but … it’s based in Spain! It.
